Fear

Piggy was right. They were acting like a bunch of kids. No one knows that we’re stranded here, what if they don't know that the plane was struck down? How long are we going to be here? In Assembly, Ralph said that we needed a fire, and all the boys left, and then there was just Piggy and I, and the littleuns of course. The fire was large, lit and going, but it soon died down. They used Piggy's glasses to light it. Of course, Piggy tries to explain to them that they need to plan these types of things out more, and that they can't just go and do it. But as usual, no one listens. Piggy seems to be the only smart one on this island. Sure, Ralph brought up the fact that we needed a fire and that no on should talk unless given the conch, but you can't just go and build a fire without thinking it out. this is where he and Piggy should be working together.  Now, Jack and the hunters are assigned to watch the fire.

Later on, I heard Piggy telling Ralph and the others that the little boy with the mulberry birthmark, was playing by the fire and has disappeared. They acted as if nothing had happened. I thought back to the assembly, where the little boy asked about the beastie, and then they argued about it. They wouldn't even listen.

It was dark. Simon and Ralph went to go fetch a littleun who ran off before bed. Everyone slept peacefully, until the morning. I was awoken by Ralph calling an emergency meeting. It was in the wee hours of the morning, and I was still tired. I still jumped up with everyone else to see what was going on. During the assembly, The twins began to talk about a monster. They claim that they saw it while they were tending to the fire. This brings fear to all the boys, and myself. So they plan to set out, and kill the monster.

The next morning, Jack and the hunters find pig droppings, and decided that it would be a good idea to hunt the pig, and the beast at the same time. So, they set out, and not long after, they found a boar. They begin to hunt it, the large group, going after one large boar. Ralph throws his makeshift spear at it, he misses, but that doesn't stop him from feeling the thrill of nearly killing such a large animal. Though the hunt has been over for awhile, the boys still feel the rush, and reenact the hunt, with Robert. It gets too out of hand when they begin to hurt him. All of them, blinded by the fact that they are just reenacting it, and not actually performing the act. By the time they become themselves again, Robert is nearly dead. This is when I began to fear for myself.
